Greece sees off Russia

Greece triumphed over favorite Russia 62-58 in the women’s Eurobasket in the Czech Republic on Tuesday and has qualified to the quarterfinals, where it will face Turkey on Thursday. This was the first time ever Greece has beaten Russia in a competitive encounter.

 

 

Greece produced the second upset of the day when they overcame Russia at the Kralovka Arena. The Russians had trailed by 14 points going into the fourth quarter but a stunning late comeback could not prevent their exit from the competition.

It was a historic day for the Greek national women’s basketball team as they stunned the Russians 62-58 and advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2017 Eurobasket tournament for the first time in the team’s history.

Greece will now face a strong Turkish side on Thursday in the quarterfinals with hopes of continuing their dream run in the competition. Once again, Greece will be the outsiders while the winners of Group B, Turkey, are expected to advance to the semifinals.
