On the evening of Wednesday, June 7, the Greek American Homeowners Association of Astoria (GAHOA) and George Fakiris, philanthropist, granted scholarships to Greek-American students at their culture center (23-49 31st St., Astoria).
Each student received a scholarship check in the amount of $500, donated by Mr. George Fakiris in the amount of $250 and the organization, GAHOA in the amount of $250.
Fakiris, a unique community activist and benefactor of Modern Greek education, was present to award scholarships. He established the scholarship program in 2002 with George Alexiou, under the auspices of the Greek American Homeowners Association. His generosity has encouraged young students to continue their studies. Outgoing GAHOA President George Kitsios was responsible for the expansion of the scholarship program.
